WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
1. PAPER - DALER-ROWNEY BOCKINGFORD WATERCOLOUR PAPER weight 140lbs. This is a good weight as it doesn't need stretching and is resistant to "cockling" or "buckling" when a wash is applied. A4 size is good to start with.
2. BRUSHES - (Better to have a couple of good quality synthetic brushes than a whole set of cheap brushes!) DALER-ROWNEY do good student quality brushes at a reasonable price, as do WINSOR & NEWTON. Get a good synthetic rather than a cheap sable. Good sizes to have are Size 10 round for washes, and a size 5 or 6 round (if you only want to get one then get a size 6). If you want a good brush for more detailed work then go for a Size 3 round.
3. PAINTS - You don't need a huge range of colours, just a set of red, blue, yellow, brown and black plus a green (NO WHITE needed!!). You will need a palette of some sort to mix the paints but a saucer will do (easier if it's white without a pattern on it!)
4. PENCIL, sharpener and eraser.
Before Christmas we made seasonal watercolour cards and gift tags. We are currently playing with tiny watercolour landscapes.
